The Basics

There are four basic plan levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum.

Dental insurance for children is included in the price of all health plans purchased in the exchange.
Applying
Californians can apply for a health insurance plan and premium assistance through Covered California during open enrollment — from Nov. 15, 2014, to Feb. 15, 2015, for coverage during 2015. The documents needed to apply include:

Social Security numbers for U.S. citizens, or document information for immigrants with satisfactory status.

Employer and income information for everyone in the consumer’s family.

Federal tax information.

Proof of citizenship or lawful presence.
Californians, who do not qualify for premium assistance, can apply directly for a health insurance plan directly through the insurance companies. The documents needed to apply are names, address, birth dates and sex.
